The Eighth Annual Kansas City Open Nine Wicket Series tournament is set to return to the pre-pandemic format with two days of play at Kactus Creek Croquet Club on July 24-25, 2021. The KC Open has become an annual tradition where the best croquet players in Kansas City battle for bragging rights on the finest court in the metro. PARKVILLE, Mo.—KC Open games will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
As of this writing, the MCA board is finalizing a solution to the Pro Division schedule. As a consequence, the Pro and Gold division matchups and schedules are subject to change. Regardless, players should be ready for tournament action to begin at 8 a.m. each day. The MCA asks that players plan to arrive 30 minutes before their first game.
Ellie Griffith won her first MCA Championship tournament on the way to placing first in the 2018 MCA Nine Wicket Series Gold Division points race.
Executing a series of immaculate roll-up shots and long, accurate split shots, Griffith cruised to a 27-12 victory against runner-up Brevin Millican.
Similar to her performance at the KC Open on the same court six weeks ago, Griffith broke through to the double wickets on the far side of the court with some ease while her opponent struggled to advance his balls past wicket three during the early phase of the game.
MCA members who have qualified for the 2018 MCA Championship have received their invitations to the tournament scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15, at Kactus Creek Croquet Club in Parkville, Mo.
The MCA is asking that players accept their bids by Monday, Sept. 10, so the board can set the brackets.

The 2018 Midwest Croquet Association Annual General Meeting held at the eCafe in Overland Park, Kansas, on January 27, 2018, achieved the primay goal of transitioning to a new president. Steve Jackson from Kansas City has taken over the role from Dylan Goodwin who served for five years.
The transition was the central part of the meeting discussion and an interesting twist occurred as a new vice president position was created which Ellie Griffith taking that role. The idea is that adding another member will help with the workload for the president and also ensure of smooth succession in future years.
PARKVILLE, MO -- Matt Griffith took the 2017 Kansas City Open Pro Division title with a tight 19-17 win over Billy Bob Breeden at Kactus Creek Croquet Club in Parkville, Missouri. Griffith has now won three of the four Kansas City Open Pro titles and a record seven MCA Pro titles. Griffith advanced to the final after a 23-16 win over Dylan Goodwin. Breeden made it to the final after winning 24-22 thriller over Greg Adams in the semifinals.
Tomorrow the action resumes as the Gold players will hit the courts at 8:30 a.m. look to gain slots in the final eight for the MCA Gold Championship in September.
