2016 MCA Six Ball Championship: October 9

CLEVELAND, MO -- The MCA has announced that Bill Berg has agreed to host the 2016 MCA Six-Ball Croquet Championship on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Cleveland Croquet Club. The original event was scheduled for September 16, 2016 at Markey Park in advance of the MCA Championships, but steady rains that day delayed court markup.'

The event is free for all full MCA members and is $10 for non-MCA members and will start at noon. Each player will be put into a qualifier with the top finishers advancing to a six-player final. Lunch will not be provided at the event.

Cleveland Rocks

The Cleveland Open certainly rocked the MCA Nine Wicket Series this past weekend as all four of the points' races saw new leaders at the top of the standings after this weekend's action at the Cleveland Croquet Club. The fun started in the Pro Division, as former USCA Nine Wicket National Champion Matt Smith came into the event with the idea of ending Matt Griffith's participated tournament win streak of six. Smith had a couple of MCA events under his belt, but the Cleveland Open is the first one where he planned to participate in the knockout round.

2016 Cleveland Open Day One Winners

CLEVELAND, MO -- There was a lot of croquet action on day one of the 2016 Cleveland Open outside of Cleveland, Missouri today as the Pro, Gold and Bronze Divisions all competed today. All three divisions saw new winners.

PRO DIVISION: Matt Smith over Greg Clouse 20-10

GOLD DIVISION: Nate Benz over Jodi Adams 30-22

BRONZE DIVISION: Patrick Fagan 2-0, Gwyneth Bowen 1-1, Shari Cullinan 0-2

2016 Cleveland Open Pro Line-up

The Pro Division for the 2016 Cleveland Open start swinging the mallets at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning with a three-round random draw format. Ten players will be looking for eight spots in the afternoon playoff bracket. The Pro Championship will take place at 3:15 p.m. on Center Court at the Cleveland Croquet Club. 2016 Cleveland Open Silver Line-up

The Silver Division for the 2016 Cleveland Open will be the featured event on Sunday with action starting at 8:30 AM. Nine players will be split into three blocks of three with the top two from each group advancing to a six-player playoff. All players will receive a bye in the morning, with Trevor Adams, Darin Watson and Justin Marciniak having a bye in round one.

2016 Cleveland Open Bronze Line-up

The Bronze Division for the 2016 Cleveland Open will change format with a head-to-head singles in round-robin play. The Bronze Division will not utilize carry-over deadness like the other divisions, but will otherwise follow the same rules of nine wicket croquet as the Silver Division with a 50-minute clock, last turns and three time-outs per player. 2016 Cleveland Open Registration

The next leg of the 2016 MCA Nine Wicket Series travels south for the first ever Cleveland Open. With two courts available the event will be played June 11-12, 2016. The Pro and Bronze Divisions will play on Saturday and the Gold and Silver will start on Sunday. Start times are tentative until the final lineups are released, but it is expected the the Pro Division will start at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday with the Bronze Division starting around 2:30 p.m. Ideally, both the Gold and Silver Divisions will start at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.

MCA Drops Kansas for 2015

LEAWOOD, KS -- The MCA has officially cancelled the July 11, 2015 Nine Wicket Series event originally scheduled for the Kansas Challenge. The Challenge was held at Mission Trail Elementary in 2013 and 2014 in Leawood, Kansas. However, the soccer field utilized for the tournament has been closed for the summer while the school adds playground equipment.
