Active Postseason for MCA Players
After a solid second year of MCA Nine Wicket Series play, MCA players and members made a lot of noise in USCA and club events in the postseason. Here's an update:
Matt Griffith and Paul Miller had a repeat of the Kansas City Open final on a much bigger stage as they fought through a tough field at the USCA Nine Wicket National Championship in Kansas City to battle in the title game. This time Paul Miller prevailed 24-15 to claim his first national championship. Miller also made a run at the doubles title as well with his partner Doug Moore from New York, but they came up short against defending doubles champions George Cochran and John Warlick in the final.
In first flight action, Greg Adams won the National Title with a win over Michael Kearns. Adams and Ron Millican finished as the runner-up team in the doubles event losing to locals Ed Mondt and Nathan Oberg.
Other MCA players that participated in Nine Wicket Nationals included Jodi Adams, Bill Berg, Greg Clouse, Dylan Goodwin and Deborah Millican.
In USCA Rules six-wicket play, MCA player Matt Baird finished second at the ScissorTail Invitational held September 18-21 at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Other MCA members and players that participated included Pat Garner, Kevin McQuigg, Art Parsells and Scott Spradling.
On September 24-28, Billy Bob Breeden travelled to Lexington, North Carolina to play in the prestigious Country Boys AC event. It is an incredibly tough field of 20 players that included at least six former Team USA members.
On October 3-5, Matt Baird won the Indian Territory Open held in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Matt Griffith took third in the event and Kevin McQuigg placed fourth. Ron Millican won the first flight singles event and then joined his partner Greg Adams to claim the first flight doubles title. Steve Jackson took second in the second flight singles, then grabbed the second flight doubles title with partner George Dakil. Other MCA members and players that participated include Art Parsells, Pat Garner, Deborah Millican, Jodi Adams and Wanda Jackson.
On October 18, Greg Adams won the Pumpkin Open nine wicket event held in Parkville, Missouri. Greg Clouse, Deborah Millican and Jason Johnson all made the final as well.
